This design was created while I was working for Event Production Services, and was used throughout the Northern Illinois University campus. The 2015 Northern Illinois University Welcome Days marketing materials were designed around the feeling of a summer time music festival. In order to achieve said feeling, background imagery was produced using ink brayers to evoke a feeling of human creation. Photographs are contained within an image of a small brayer run, to emphasize the expressive nature of interaction. I then applied a distressed texture to the main date typography and the logos. The piece displays a feeling of connection, and sincerity – as the event of Welcome Days is in itself a celebration of creating new experiences and building new friendships. This is a high profile project as it is targeted at all incoming students, and all returning students. The content is developed and provided by many different organizations and departments and relies heavily on clear and concise communication. This process teaches effective conceptual thinking and strong strategic planning for mass communication for a specific target audience.
